Planning her 1st party.....what fun!

So, I'm in the process of planning Emercyn's first birthday party. She turns on one September 21st, and her party is on the 22nd. I'm having SO much fun! We're doing a "ballerina" theme. She's wearing a hot pink tutu at the party, and I put on the invitation that all her little friends can wear one too!! Everything I bought is pinks and purples....so girly! I still have so much to do! I have to order the cake and her little smash cake, although I have talked to someone that can make the cake I'm wanting (ballerina slippers)! I've sent out the invitations, so that's one thing down. Emercyn and I went shopping last week at Party Galaxy, and I bought all the plates, napkins, cups, etc. I have all the decorations ready to go as well. I've also been working on a video montage that has pictures from my pregnancy all the way up to today....I'm going to have it playing continuously at her party. It took me forever to pick out songs, but I finally decided on 3 that are just perfect. I chose "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts, "My Girl" by The Temptations, and "In my Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride. I can't watch it without crying!

I'm just counting down.....3 weeks to go!

Sippy Cup Fun!

Today (August 31st), Emercyn learned to hold the sippy cup all by herself....and actually drink out of it! Yippee!! She's such a big girl! Up to this point, she's just been holding it to play with it.

She's almost a year!!!!

months ten-eleven....

Month Ten:

Sleeping is perfect! Emercyn is now eating more table food. She's also eating crackers, Gerber puffs, cheese, and yogurt. She still nurses every 3 hours during the day. She learned to crawl this month! No more rolling! She is SO quick! She also learned to wave "bye" and "hi". She can say "bye bye" too! At 10 & 1/2 months she figured out what "kiss" means. It's so cute! We just pucker up and she is so willing to give them out!! :)

Month Eleven:

Sleeping is perfect!! Her bedtime is 7:30pm and she usually sleeps until 9:00am! She loves her crib!! Sometimes she gets excited to see it!! :)
Her eyes are now a greenish-brown color. Some days they are definitely brown like daddy's, and other days they are definitely green like mommy's!
She nurses about every 4 hours now. She's also eating almost all table food. She learned to pull-up to a stand this month!! So, I guess the only thing left is walking!! I'm not ready for that!! I'll be okay if she postpones that one for another month or two!!

months seven-nine......

Month Seven:

Still swaddling.....still waking every 2 hours! This month she learned how to roll from her back to her tummy. So, now she can roll all over the place!! She also figured out how to put the paci back in her mouth all by herself. What an achievement!! I didn't have to run in her room in the middle of the night to do that!! :)

Month Eight:

One of my good friends from my mom's group loaned me a book by Kim West (aka the Sleep Lady). It was the BEST book! I'm not into CIO (cry-it-out) and absolutely did not want to try it. So, when my friend mentioned how well this book worked for her I knew I had to try it. It's a "no cry sleep solution", which is what I was looking for. My friend's little girl (who's a month older than Emercyn) also woke up quite often at night, and was still being swaddled. After one week of following the book's orders, Emercyn was no longer swaddled. She also SLEPT ALL NIGHT LONG!! Whoo hoo!!! Jason and I were overjoyed!! During this month, we also started her on meats. She loves chicken! She also said her second word this month...."dada"!! It just made Jason's day the first time he heard it!! :) This was my last month to keep Braxton. I know Emercyn wondered where he went, and I know she misses him! She needs a brother.....someday!

Month Nine:

Sleeping is perfect! Emercyn learned to get herself from a lying position to a sitting position this month. She then learned to army crawl! She never was very quick at it though. She much preferred to just roll everywhere. She sure was quick at that!! She's still nursing every 3 hours. She also has learned to say "uh-oh"! It's so adorable....she'll intentionally drop something just to say it! Emercyn also learned to clap!! She loves to play pat-a-cake!

months four-six.....

Month Four:

Sleeping began to be a crazy mess again! We were gone for about a week over Christmas break visiting family, and she decided she hated sleeping unless she was in her own bed. We came back home from the visit, and it was like we were back at day one. I had made myself a promise that I wasn't going to hold her in the recliner again.....simply because I had this vision of her being 16 years old and me holding her all night long in our little recliner. This was not something I wanted to happen! So, we continued to swaddle and rock......and eventually she would sleep, although not all night long. She woke up about every 2 hours to eat. I eventually got used to this routine. I could get a solid 2 continuous hours before waking each night....not bad, I thought. :) I could handle this as long as it wasn't in the recliner!! This month Emercyn and I also joined a mom's group out of Yukon. What a blessing that was! I've made some great friends, and Emercyn absolutely enjoys her playtime with the other babies!!

Month Five:

Still swaddling....still waking every 2 hours. Emercyn had reached the weight limit on the bassinett, so we decided to move her into her own room. She would sleep in her crib! I'm one of those moms that was totally freaked out by this. I liked the fact that she was in the same room as me, and now she would be all the way across the hall. We have a tv monitor, so I can still see her.....but it's not the same. This was a HUGE step for me! She handled it fine. This month she also learned to sit all by herself.....totally unsupported! What a big girl! At 5 & 1/2 months we started baby cereal too! Boy, oh boy! She loved that! By this month, she was nursing every 3 hours during the day and every 2 hours at night. I also started watching one of my good friend's little boys. His name is Braxton. He was almost 5 at the time. Emercyn LOVES him!! She had a playmate every day!!

Month Six:

Still swaddling.....still waking every 2 hours. This month we started our first solids!! I made all her food myself....totally homemade. It was so simple, so much cheaper than store bought, and much healthier! She loved sweet potatoes, carrots, apples and pears. She also said her first word this month...."mama"!! It was in the middle of the night, and Jason and I woke up to her saying it!! I thought it was a fluke, but she hasn't stopped saying it ever since!

months one-three....

Month One:

Basically, this was our "learning" month! Jason and I spent most of it figuring out how to take care of a newborn. She nursed about every 20 minutes!! She liked to eat! She also loved being held, and absolutely would not sleep unless we held her. So, I held her during every single nap! I loved it. There is something so sweet about holding a baby in your arms while they sleep. Okay, so I'm sure you guess what's next.....we also held her at night!! Yikes! Jason and I took turns. We slept with her in the recliner in the living room. It was so exhausting. She slept great, but Jason and I got no sleep. We were constantly waking up to make sure we hadn't smothered her. What a crazy month!!!

Month Two:

FINALLY.....we found a way for her to sleep in her bassinett by our bed! Let me tell you, that first night to sleep in the bed was amazing! Getting her to that point was hard on all three of us, but so worth it. One thing we did was swaddle her. I'm all about swaddling!! It was a life saver! At 5 weeks old, she was sleeping all night long. She'd wake about once to eat, and that was it! We had it made!

Month Three:

She's still sleeping great! No problems there. At 13 weeks old, she rolled over for the first time. I laid her on our bed (on her tummy) and she just rolled right over onto her back. It was like she had been doing it forever! Just about a week later, she laughed out loud for the first time! What a sweet sound that is!! At this point, she was nursing every 2 hours.

Here we go.....let's start from the beginning!!

So, I'm not going to go into detail about the birth and labor. Most of you know it already, and those of you that don't know probably don't want to hear all the details anyway! I'll start with the basics.

Emercyn Jaice Looper was born on Thursday, September 21st, 2006....which just happened to be my due date! She was right on time! What a perfect little girl! She was a chunker too.....weighing in at 8 lbs. and 15 oz! She was 20 inches long. Yes, I had a normal delivery (no cesarean required), but I loaded up on the epidural!!

She was born with TONS of black hair and dark blue eyes. She was just gorgeous from the start!

We came home on Friday evening (the 22nd) and began our journey into parenthood.......
